ASKI, WTRC gives school supplies, laptop computers to Punglo Elementary School
After crossing rivers and walking for some kilometers of rough roads, Punglo Elementary School students arrived in the school grounds wearing spirited smiles. They were exhausted and soaked after their everyday struggle but they showed an energized mood to welcome ASKI despite a gloomy day due to the inclement weather.

The ASKI Foundation and staff from ASKI Mirofinance Ma. Aurora Branch had a glimpse of the journey of the children to reach the far village of Brgy. Punglo. They took a two-kilometer "barucboc" (owner-type jeep) ride in rough terrain and also rivers to deliver school supplies and laptop computers for the school last August 9.

Most of the people in the remote village are very low-income families. Commonly, people wake up before dawn to either work in the mountains where they plant crops or go to town proper to sell produce. They also sell rice cakes, some home products in their stores or broomsticks to earn.

According to Teacher Faith, one of the four teachers in the elementary school, many students don't always go to school because they have to help their parents in their works. Also, heavy rains also prevent most of the pupils to attend their studies as they cannot cross the rivers. They also lack outside support to provide the students their needs in the school and to better give quality education having few materials and equipment to use.

The students and teachers are grateful and motivated for the school supplies and laptop computers that were donated by ASKI Foundation and Wholistic Transformation Resource Center (WTRC), respectively. The teachers can now teach computer lessons to the pupils and better record their performance using the laptops. Students are more thrilled to receive and use their school materials as their parents cannot afford such due to lack of financial capability.

ASKI has been active in extending assistance to the residents of Brgy. Punglo for several years. About 30 residents of the village is under Alalay sa Kabuhayan Program of ASKI Microfinance to sustain their small businesses. A school building and stage were also constructed through the effort of ASKI.
