Australian gov't supports ASKI's youth project in Talavera
The Australian Embassy in the Philippines through the Direct Aid Program (DAP) supported the ASKI Skills and Knowledge Institute, Inc. project entitled "Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and "Agripreneurship" Among the Youth from the Marginalized Farming Communities in Talavera."

The project will include the provision of training on financial education, basic entrepreneurship, agro- enterprise and product development, and construction of processing and packaging center including some equipment.

Meanwhile, for its dairy processing, the milk will be initially supplied by buffaloes provided to the Institute by the Philippine Carabao Center, an agency of the Department of Agriculture based at the Science City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija.

During the groundbreaking ceremony of the Processing and Packaging Center at the Talavera Agricultural and Social Enterprise Training Center on August 19, 2019, ASKI Group of Companies, Inc. President and CEO and ASKI Skills and Knowledge Institute Inc. President Rolando B. Victoria said "this project will encourage the students to have an entrepreneurial mindset and I challenged all of you to be more innovative as we gear towards the fourth industrial revolution where technologies are changing the way we live."

Mr. Victoria also added that the project will encourage the students to look into agriculture in a new perspective by giving them an actual agribusiness experience; provide livelihood for the students to augment their income and value-adding of dairy products through processing; help in addressing the issue of malnutrition by promoting nutritious products especially among children, promote financial education/literacy through opening of a savings account; and formalize the students into an association/ cooperative in the local community.

Ms. Mary Jane P. Macapagal, school directress said that the project supported by the Australian government will empower the youth in the community by giving them opportunity to augment their income and become leaders of their own organization in the future.

"The ultimate goal is to see them manage their own Cooperative. The Institute believes that the young generation have a lot of creative ideas to implement and only needs support to come into realization," she said.

The beneficiaries of the project belong to poor families in the rural communities in Talavera, Nueva Ecija. They were able to study through the subsidy from the government with regard to school tuition. However, other fees and everyday expenses are counterpart of the parents/students. With this initiative, the students will be able to supplement their families' income and help cover some food and transportation expenses while at school.
