ASKI client now enjoys comfortable comfort room
After years of sharing with his relatives' comfort room made out of bamboos and thatches, Joey Millanes, 40 years old from Brgy. Nauzon, Laur, Nueva Ecija, finally able to build his own - made out of concrete walls and metallic sheet roof.
His main source of income is rice and corn farming and hog raising but often times, these are not enough. This caused Joey's family to be trapped in the reality that people would give more importance to what they will eat rather than cleanliness and sanitation.
This is what ASKI's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) loan program, which offers toilet and water facility construction or improvement, wanted to change. Through this program, Joey was able to build his own comfort room.
"Malaki ang naging ginahawa ng aking pamilya nung naitayo ito [comfort room], dahil dati nakikigamit lang kami sa kapatid ko, ngayon hindi na kami nakiki-CR," pahayag ni Millanes. ["This [comfort room] brought a big relief for my family, because before we were just using my brother's comfort room, now we have our own,"] Millanes said.
Before, Joey and his family had to cross through rice fields - ignoring the possible hazards especially during night time - just to use his brother's comfort room. What makes it harder is when rainy season comes, making the path impassable. This is why Joey decided to get a loan from ASKI and after six days he had his own comfort room.
Today, Joey believes that this program could really wash diseases away and he now enjoys his own comfortable comfort room.
