ASKI gets recognition in 2017 Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Award, signs 'Karlsruhe Resolution'
For fifth consecutive year, the Alalay Sa Kaunlaran Inc. (ASKI) was again awarded the Merit Certificate in recognition of its success in implementing the Agricultural Value Chain program at the 2017 Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Award held in Karlsruhe, Germany on July 13, 2017.

Winning under the Outstanding Sustainable Project Financing, the agricultural value chain program is aimed at increasing the income of farmers by giving them the needed support in terms of financing, equipment, market linkaging and capacity building.

The Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards honours financial institutions and organizations with significant contributions to the field of sustainable finance. The ceremony was attended by CEOs of leading international financial institutions, senior executives of other winning institutions and top German government officials.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ambassador Evan P. Garcia represented the Philippine Embassy in Germany and delivered his message.

In his speech, he noted the initiatives of ASKI in the local and international front " the second challenge at large migrant labor population has elicited its own set of solutions offered by organization such as Alalay Sa Kaunlaran Inc or ASKI. ASKI's services range from the provision of solar lamps to rural communities to the conduct of financial literacy training and business handling backed by loans to overseas Filipino workers and their dependents back home. Its agricultural value chain program has provided much needed assistance to farming activities, irrigation facilities and market access," Ambassador Garcia said.

The delegates of the conference supporting the UN-backed Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement (COP21) collectively referred to as 2030 Agenda also signed the Karlsruhe Resolution to finance and invest in the implementation of SDGs and COP21 projects in their respective countries. ASKI is one of the two microfinance institutions in the Philippines who signed the resolution.
