Stakeholders hail ASKI Global Limited financial inclusion efforts
ASKI Global Limited was exemplified for its financial inclusion efforts during the Asia Microfinance Forum held last August 4-8 at Shanghai, China.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Robert Annibale, global director of Citi Microfinance and Community Development, highlighted ASKI Global Ltd. as an exemplary organization with its continued efforts in engaging the migrant worker communities based in Singapore in financial inclusion activities.

Stakeholders from various sectors met during the forum to discuss and explore on innovative ideas, models and solutions that can help improve the lives of the hundreds of millions of people in Asia still living in poverty and without access to financial products and services. ASKI Global Ltd., as a supporting partner, also facilitated a panel session which examined issues related to leveraging remittances by a specific target market the migrant workers.

The session was moderated by Professor Albert Teo of the National University of Singapore with the panel comprising of Dr. Nimal Fernando of The Foundation of Development Cooperation, Mr. Pedro Tigre De Vasconcelos of International Fund for Agricultural Development, Secretary Imelda Nicolas of Commission on Filipinos Overseas and Mr. Rolando B. Victoria of ASKI Philippines.

The challenge noted by the panel for microfinance institutions, commercial banks and government agencies is to develop the programmes, products and services to fill this demand. Members of the remittances panel were also able to present ideas and products that are already starting to impact remittance senders and their households in positive ways.

Meanwhile, Ms. Irma Cosico, Chief Executive Officer of ASKI Global Ltd., served as one of the panelists in a break- out session that focused on utilizing innovative approaches in advancing financial capabilities facilitated by Citi Foundation. Ms. Cosico emphasized the unique features of the ASKI Global financial inclusion model such as the back-to-back education of migrant workers in Singapore and their respective families in their home countries. She also highlighted the importance of providing access to financial products and services and financial information for the migrant workers.

Asia Microfinance Forum is one of the largest microfinance and financial inclusion events in Asia convened by the Banking with the Poor Network and organized by the Foundation for Development Cooperation in partnership with Citi Foundation and The China Association of Microfinance.
